We believe that businesses have a corporate responsibility to provide a high level of community support. Accordingly we proudly back the Snowy Hydro SouthCare Aeromedical Rescue Helicopter Service. Snowy Hydro makes hundreds of critical, lifesaving missions each year, and is a crucial service in the regions that it serves.
We believe that businesses are indebted to have a positive impact on the lives of people around us, particularly those affected by unfortunate circumstances, injury and illness. For us, this means that our business is increasingly engaged in giving back to the communities in which we operate. To this end, Hidrive are a corporate sponsor of the Snowy Hydro SouthCare Aeromedical Rescue Helicopter Service.
Snowy Hydro SouthCare acknowledges that it is the corporate and community support from companies like Hidrive, that makes the iconic lifesaving aeromedical rescue helicopter what it is today. We are constantly in awe at how many people Snowy Hydro SouthCare supports, with over 6,200 lifesaving missions since 1998, and 509 of these were in the last financial year alone.
The Snowy Hydro SouthCare Bell 412 helicopter is a critical tool for the medical care of people located in the sprawling territory from the coast to the alpine regions that are covered by the service. This is because a helicopter is the optimal rescue vehicle. The work of the helicopter is crucial due to its ability to travel swiftly and with less difficulty than a road vehicle – and its capacity to do so over any type of terrain, land or sea. In addition, the helicopter can hover in the air, allowing the Snowy Hydro SouthCare crew to rescue people from locations where the helicopter is unable to land.
However it is extremely costly to run the helicopter service, with each mission costing approximately $5,800 per hour. This includes payment for the highly trained staff that pilot the vehicle and the Paramedics and Doctors who provide the lifesaving on site medical assistance. Donations given by businesses, community organisations and individuals make up a significant portion of the helicopter’s $6.5 million (plus) a year operating cost. All donations go directly towards keeping the Snowy Hydro SouthCare Aeromedical resuce helicopter in the air and saving lives.
